Freeing Up Space on Vms

Virtual machines are challenging beasts, supplying virtual hardware as well as running numerous operating systems on your processor without delay. Upgrading the hardware (mainly the RAM and the CPU) help accelerate the virtual machines, however, there is so much more that you can do.

Normally, you reduce the size of the files and de fragment some of the virtual hard disks to free the amount of space you need on your virtual machine. However, when you delete all the files from the virtual machine, the lost space does not return on your Mac. On the other hand, shrinking your virtual machine by clearing up the virtual machine’s hard disk will return that freed up space to your virtual machine as soon as possible.

The Pre Requisites

There are some pre requisites that you must follow in order to complete the task. Turn down or power off your virtual machine. You will not be able to change these settings if the virtual machine is turned on or suspended.

The Procedure

  1. From the VMware Fusion menu bar, choose Window > Virtual Machine Library.

  2. Pick a virtual machine and connect to Settings.

  3. Below the System Settings, choose General.

  4. Click Clean Up Virtual Machine.

By this method, you will easily be able to clean up space on your virtual machine without having to decide on which items to delete and which to keep. With this hassle free method, everything is so much more straight forward and easy, and helps you to gain peace of mind

But be very sure to follow all the given pre requisites as these are very important. Not following them may lead to the corruption of the files on the device and might even destroy the device itself. It is best to be safe now, than sorry later
