Flash drives come in a large variety of designs and functions; perhaps the most utilized function being logo USB drives. The name is derived from taking a flash drive and customizing it by way of branding.
A logo USB consists of a flash drive with a logo branded on to it. That is the simplified version. The complicated version involves all of of the choices you get when creating one. These customized USBs are produced by promotional companies. That being said, there are hundreds of variations in order to create a unique look for you. USB drives come in different materials and styles including:
Plastic
Plastic models are made from ABS plastic. It is a durable and malleable material. These type of flash drives are great for two reasons; they are cheap to buy in bulk and very customizable.
Metal
Metal models are made from either anodized aluminum or chromed steel. They are the most durable. Metal flash drives tend to cost more because of the materials and shipping weight. However, if you can swing the price they make for a very fancy and clean looking style.
Wood
Wood models are typically made from real wood species like beechwood, bamboo, maple, rosewood, walnut and recycled wood. While some may argue that wood isn’t good for customizing, many companies actually offer different stains for people who like the grain, but not the color. This material is great for naturalists and simple folk. Not to mention it is more rare to see a wood USB drive as a promotional tool as most go with plastic.
Any style of USB drive can be branded with one of the following methods:
â CMYK printing- similar to desktop printing. Logos can be reproduced in full color by combining 4 colors CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black).
â Pad printing/screen printing: Screen printing, previously known as silk-screening is a printing technique that traditionally creates a sharp-edged image using a stencil and a porous fabric. The screen is made from porous finely woven fabric held over a frame. Areas of the screen are obscured with a non-permeable stencil which is a positive of the image to be printed (the remaining open areas are where the ink will appear). When printing multi-color logos, a new stencil is made for each color and the different colors printed sequentially. Screen printing is most suitable for logos with 1-4 colors that have no shading or color gradation.
â Laser engraving: This permanent marking process involves using a fiber or CO2 laser to etch your design on the surface of the Custom Flash Drives. This process exposes the underlying substrate of the material if it is painted or anodized, or if it is a raw material, vaporizes a thin layer of the substrate to make a different color. It is necessary to use vector art for this process, as we cannot laser etch any gradients, halftones or colors. Keep in mind that the underlying substrate of painted drives might be brass, zinc, aluminum, steel, or plastic. These different substrates each have a unique color and will be exposed when etching painted drives. If laser etching a wooden drive, the laser will burn the wood a darker color as the temperature of the laser site exceeds the flash point of the wood.
Simply use your vectorized logo, artwork or have a USB Promos team member create something for you.
Logo USB drives are a great marketing and promotional tool for any person or business. Keep them blank or load data on to your custom USB drives— the choice is yours.
