A Look at Some Of the Biggest Apps Of 2013

2013 was a pretty big year for apps, with the constant development of software; we have been seeing some of the biggest games and applications ever hitting our smartphones and tablets.

Whether it’s messaging, gaming or mind-boggling puzzles, we really have been spoilt over the last few years with the likes of Temple Run and Words with Friends, but I've taken a look back at 2013 and picked some of the best the world of mobile phones has seen.

4 Pics, 1 Word

One of the most addictive apps ever kicked off 2013, I can remember text messages, Facebook posts and even face to face requests to help some of my friends solve the puzzles.

It was a simple idea, placing four pictures besides each other which link to one word, which you have to figure out.

Of course it sounds simple, but when you get stuck on that one group of pictures that everyone seems to have already got, the frustration builds, often leading to you deleting the app, and then downloading it again half an hour later.

Snapchat

The photo messaging app which destroys every picture you send to your friends after they have viewed your amusing picture.

Snapchat had the world going crazy through 2013, and the craze is still in full swing, with millions of snaps being sent since it took off last year.

Facebook offered to buy the app for a whopping $3 billion, but the owners clearly felt that offer was a joke, having turned it down.

The app was boosted further into the press with several institutions, including the British Prime Ministers former school banning use of the app through their internet connection amidst fears of ‘sexting’.

This only made Snapchat grow further, and despite calls from a minority to pull the app, it still goes from strength to strength.

Vine

One of the best apps ever made in this writers opinion, millions of videos have been made using it, resulting in many internet users video span attention dropping to just 7 seconds.

The idea was to pack a video into 7 seconds and still get your message across and it clearly worked.

Comedy vines have taken over the web and many of our mobile phones through the use of this video sharing service.

Whether it’s a hilarious ‘you’ve been framed-esque’ accident or a ridiculous mash-up of songs and random goat noises (Google it if you haven’t heard them) and you have a great medium for comedy.

Do you have any apps which you thought dominated your phone over 2013? Or any that are taking over your smartphone this year?

If so make a comment below and I will take the app on a test run and report back for everyone to see.
