Do you have a computer at home?
Nearly everyone has a computer nowadays. We love our computers. Do you know that computers have solved a lot of our problems, but computers have also gave us so much trouble? I am writing this article to tell you that there are bad things about our computers. Now I am going to give you the good, the bad and the ugly of our beloved computer.
The Good
Computers help us do our work, in complicated calculations, keep records, communication like Facebook and Twitter. We are so depend on our computers and we cannot live without it. When our computer stop working, everyone stop work in the office. Aeroplanes cannot fly without computer.
Computer is especially good in the medical field. It helps doctors to diagnose problem with patients. It keep record of us, so doctor know that what medication work and what medication doesn't work.
I don’t think I need to give you too much on the good of computers. You all knew about them.
The Bad
Do you know that computer is the main reason for unemployment?
I remembered when I was young. I followed my father to the bank and I saw like ten people sitting on their desk. Their work was just to keep records of customer transactions. After we have computers, those jobs are all gone. The jobs created with the invention of computer is much less than the job lost. I would say it would be in the ratio of five to one.
Many people do not know how to spell properly (including myself), computer has taken over this job for us with spell check.
We use lots more paper than before we have computers. There was a story about a printer problem- this printer could not stop because of a fault and it printed a whole mountain of papers. In a few occasions, I did received a zero statement balance from the bank – what a waste of paper.
Kids are addicted to their computer game and not studying or doing their homework. They sit in front of their computer for the whole day and their social skill is appalling.
Social networking taken over our life, some people are on their Facebook all hours of the day. A lot of the time we send messages to our friends, when they are sitting right in front of us. Mothers have to tell their kids to come to dinner on Facebook or Twitter. I am guilty as well, everyday I send email to my colleague who sit next to me.
There are millions and millions of computers we send to the rubbish yard. We replaced our computer nearly every year with a new model. Also phones, game consoles and lots of other gadgets. There are millions of computers and mobile phones ends up as rubbish, brand new and still in their packing boxes. The amount of rubbish we produce is unthinkable; our recycle programs are not able to cope with it.
The Ugly
We produce missiles, all computer guided. We killed our enemy with precision and no one can get away, just with the press of a button. I have seen a TV documentary, nowadays soldiers don’t have to go to the battle field. They were just sitting in their office in down town Manhattan in front of a computer console. They use their console to fire rockets and missiles to any target they are ordered to hit. They did not know how many people they have killed after pressing that button. They do not know if they have hit the correct target. On the next day, he might found out on the newspaper that he has killed fifty innocent people, including women and children. It is indeed very ugly.
The governments spying on everyone using computers. The have records of everyone, your photo, your identity, your address and that is not enough. They also want to know what you have on your computers, your email, your phone conversations and every single details of what you do. Even your shopping list and how much you spend on your credit card. We have no more privacy.
Conclusion
I don’t like computers but I have to use it every day. I wrote this article on my computer. LOL.
I think we are better off without computers, and we would live happily ever after.
