One Of Causes Of Mobile Web Applications Poor Performance

Web technology has been rapidly developing since late 1990s, when the Internet started to attract more and more people. It is believed that web technology hasn’t reached limits of its potential. There are still many possibilities to improve.

One of promising directions for web technology is mobile technology. Any software testing company will confirm that mobile web software has just begun to shape. One may notice in course of mobile application testing, desktop testing and web site testing that mobile web software products are not so well thought out, usable and properly operational as desktop web programs are.

The more technology is advanced, the higher quality of web applications is, the richer their functionality is, the better media elements they include. All this significantly increases size of web programs files.

A web program can be considered to be one file. This file usually includes other files.

A Web Application Can Contains Such Files:

- images;

- audio files;

- video files;

- various libraries needed for the application functioning;

- files with code that is to be downloaded on the client device.

Such practice is ok for personal computers, as they are powerful, have large screens, fast and reliable networking connection. But there are no these advantages on mobile devices.

It turns out that to fit mobile devices web applications must return to their early days, when devices were not so powerful, and network connection bandwidth was not big.

There must be a balance between quality and size of a mobile web application in order to provide the best possible user experience. If files of a mobile web application are too big, it will take too much time for them to load.

So, mobile version of a web application must be properly adjusted to mobile technology. Otherwise it will have problems with usability, performance or other issues. Very often mobile web applications work too slowly because their size is too large.

Web Application Files Can Be Too Big for Using on a Mobile Device Because:

- there are some third party elements, which the developers forgot to adjust for mobile technology;

- the developers used libraries for desktop programs and didn’t replace them on their mobile versions that are smaller;

- there are much code that is not used on a mobile version but the developers decided to save time and efforts, and not to optimize the program code for the mobile version.

So, if web site testing on a smartphone or a tablet shows that the program under test contains performance defects, a software testing company recommends checking size of the application files. It may be the reason of poor performance.
