LED Lights For Cars – What Are The Benefits?

LED Lights For Cars – What Are The Benefits?

Once upon a time, LED lights were unheard of. Those were the days when conventional lights ruled. They didn’t last long and had to be replaced. When used in cars, traditional light bulbs didn’t help drivers see a long way as well. It was simple then that drivers often faced problems be it for driving or maintaining their car. Then, one day, came LED lights.

The era of LED lights

LED lighting for cars is making headway into our garage and they are only going to become more commonplace. LED stands for light emitting diode. They started off several years ago in concept cars and the first cars to embrace this lighting technology was Audi R8 and Lexus LS way back in 2006. Nowadays, this particular lighting technology is getting popular. Let us examine and understand this technology better and why automobile manufacturers are using LED lights over traditional Halogen lighting. LED lights for cars help drivers to see a lot farther and well, need not be replaced frequently as well.

What’s LED?

LED stands for light emitting diode and it is a semiconductor diode which lights up when voltage is applied. It is small and compact and offers significant design advantages and it is extremely versatile. Car manufacturers have the freedom to push the limits of headlight design and give it a more distinct appearance using LED lighting technology.

The varied benefits of having LED lights for cars

The benefits of LED lighting are not merely cosmetic but they are functional as well. They consume very little power and therefore it has become popular in electric cars as well. In fact, they consume up to 70-80 percent less power in comparison to Halogen or Xenon headlamps which used to be used in older cars. LED headlamps are brighter and they emit a whiter light which helps provide better viewing for the driver during night time and especially during foggy conditions. This helps improve road and driving safety in precarious conditions and of course, in everyday driving conditions as well. LED headlamps are also longer lasting and they usually last the entire lifetime of the car, which is around 10-15 years normally. This helps reduce the hassles of replacing defunct headlamps every couple of years.

All of these advantages have led automobile manufacturers to adopt and embrace LED headlamps. The higher cost of this technology is offset by the incredible stylish designs that it has the potential to achieve, the better lighting and increased safety for the passengers and the longer lifespan of these headlamps. LED headlamps are only going to get snazzier and more eye-catching and they are definitely going to be the headlamp of choice of most future vehicles.
