Common Computer Problems: Repairs Tips for Perth PC Users

Knowing some basic computer repairs is beneficial for Perth PC owners. Not only does it save you money, it also saves time, spare you of headaches, and you may not even need to part with your computer and delay your work if you can troubleshoot it yourself.

There are numerous computer issues that you may or may not encounter, and they range from relatively simple concerns, such as the mouse not working properly, to more serious ones such as a system crash. You don’t need to learn them all; but you may want to become familiar with the most common computer problems, which include:

• Incorrect screen resolution. Flat screen monitors have native resolutions, which is the highest resolution level it can be set. If not set properly, what you will see is either a display that’s smaller than your screen, with black borders, or low quality display. To resolve the issue, right-click on your desktop, click Screen Resolution, then in the Resolution drop-down menu, select the recommended setting for your machine.

• Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) or STOP error. This is one of the most dreaded things that computers users would prefer not to encounter, since it indicates a serious system crash. Technicians read and interpret the STOP codes to resolve the issue. Windows will restart your computer if it encounters BSOD, but you can also boot in Safe Mode if your computer keeps on displaying BSOD each time you turn it on.

• Strange noises. If your computer is making weird noises, like rapid clicking or clacking sounds, then it could mean that your hard disk is having difficulty – or is about to die. It could be due to another cause, such as loose screw, but it’s no reason to ignore the sound. It’s highly recommended that you back up your data, if you have not done so already, and get the advice of a technician.

If you hear a whirring sound, it could be your fan. It may be clogged with dirt, so it has to work extra hard to keep your computer cool. If not cleaned, this can cause your machine to overheat, which is a problem that you’d want to avoid.

There are many more computer issues and indications worth knowing, such as those listed in ComboFix. Even if you’re not a technician, you’d want to at least know what to do with your computer when you encounter a problem.
