Laptop Too Slow: Repairs Tips for Perth Computer Users

Before you get totally upset with your computer’s slow performance, you may want to do some basic troubleshooting and maintenance procedures first. By doing some of the steps that laptop repairs technicians in Perth take, you could make your computer run relatively faster.

Fox News has listed down several ways you could get more computer speed:

  • Remove the programs that you don’t use.

These applications not only use up precious hard disk space, they could also be using up memory, as some of them may be running in the background without you realizing it. But removing a program involves more than just deleting them in the desktop and File Explorer; you need to uninstall it to remove all its components. To uninstall a program, click Start, Control Panel, Programs, Programs and Features, then Uninstall a Program. You will then see a list of your installed programs. Select which one you want to remove, then click Uninstall.

There are some programs that automatically run upon start up, and these use up memory, thus making your boot up process slower. Disable these programs to prevent them from automatically running until you launch them.

  • Use an SDD (solid-state drive) instead of an HDD (hard disk drive).

The former is known to perform much faster, although it’s a lot more pricey. You can also consider adding more hard disk space to accommodate your files, since an internal storage that’s too full may be a cause for a slower performance.

  • Add more memory.

since more memory means your computer will be able to manage more tasks with more efficiency. If you intend to add more memory to your laptop, you need to know the type to purchase (since memory boards come in different sizes) and if your model is capable of having additional memory.

  • Use the Disk Cleanup and the Disk Defragmenter tools.

To find the tools, go to Start, click All Programs, then expand Accessories. The two tools are under System Tools.

  • It also helps to keep your computer clean.

A dirty fan can make your computer heat up, and may cause it to slow down and even break down. Have your technician clean the inside of your laptop to get rid of all the accumulated dust and dirt.

If you think that your computer is too aged and is no longer able to keep up with the programs that you use, then you may want to consider purchasing a new machine instead of repairing your laptop in Perth.
